Kara pic IIE VENDOR

Instructor – Kara

10:30 AM—12:00 PM

Fridays

Session 1: May 3rd– June 7th
Session 2: Sept 20th– Oct 25th

Prerequisite: Must be 18

Cost: $210 per person +

Additional cost Kit:  $55 Equipment (1 centre ball, 2 yoga balls )

Week 1&2: Will be using 2 different sized massage balls/treatment tools to learn self-massage/myofascial release techniques to rehydrate and soften the fascia/muscles/connective tissue. Week 1: Lower Body, Week 2: Upper Body

Weeks 3-6 Will focus on retraining muscles and connective tissue through functional basics exercises such as planks/push-ups, squats, sit-ups, standing active postures. Course will build and progress with a natural flow as students are ready. Students are expected to continue to practice myofascial self-care at home during the week to best prepare for classes.

Expected Outcomes: Students can expect to have a base knowledge in fascia and how it can restrict, and inhibit movement in an unhealthy state. Students can expect to also have an understanding of how the fascial chains work together in a healthy way to support and increase movement, strength and mobility by learning basic exercises to retrain their posture and activate dormant muscles.

Narrative: Functional Movement Fundamentals is a six-week course where you’ll learn to increase mobility, rehydrate your tissues and restore your posture. Weeks 1 & 2 will focus on the issues in your tissues. We will be using two different sizes of massage balls to break up adhered tissues that may be limiting your range of motion and inhibiting movement. In weeks 3-6 we will be focusing on functional movement exercises that will allow you to slowly retrain your posture and build strength and endurance. Combining these two approaches to tissue health will be the perfect way to jump start or reinvigorate your fitness journey!

The founder of Happy Body, Healthy Mind, Kara is a massage therapist, yoga teacher and certified personal trainer. After 13 years specializing in manual myofascial therapy, Kara wanted to use her knowledge and expertise to help people get off of the table, and started teaching injury prevention and self-restoration. Her focus revolves around fascia, the nervous system and functional movement. She is passionate about educating people on how to live more consciously in their bodies and how to help themselves heal their pain and restore functionality, strength and balance.

Tai Chi is an excellent exercise program to improve body anti-inflammatory capacity, primarily through the inhibition of pro-inflammatory bio markers.

It’s possible that Tai Chi works to slow down the rate of bone loss because it’s a weight-bearing exercise, which stimulates bone growth.

A small study of people in their 60s found that those who practiced Tai Chi daily for 12 weeks were better able to switch between tasks than those who didn’t practice it. They also had more activity in the pre frontal cortex, the area of the brain responsible for high -level thinking thinking skills.

Extensive research shows that Tai Chi and Yoga may improve fitness, mental health, and quality of life for older adults. But if your primary concern is fall prevention, Tai Chi might be a good place to start.

I was born in Rockford Illinois.  Raised here. Graduated from Guilford high school. Then graduated from Rockford College. I was married, and we had children., who are grown now. Current age 63. I taught school among other jobs when I decided to open a Martial arts school.

In time I decided to open Tae Kwon Do schools. They were successful. I did that for 13 years.

I currently teach Martial arts. I ALSO substitute in the Harlem Schools from time to time. I also teach Tai.

By practicing this art I have been able to push through much. And could go on n on with the benefits I have reaped from it.  The benefits derived from Tai Chi that are backed by studies are vast and I have documented them.

Hi, I’m am Sarah Turner. I have worked with people in trying to find and fulfill their needs since I started off as a little girl who was told to massage her grandma‘s feet. Back in the day you did not say no to grandma and besides, she was sweet to me so I massaged her feet. As the years passed, I started massaging uncles and my mom‘s hands and feet , they did have aches and pains. At one point, one of my uncles tried to stop a swinging truss/ wooden frame for roof and pull his back out in which he asked me to massage his back. He complained that I was killing him and I laughed at him saying, “well you wanna work tomorrow don’t you so hold still.” In my working experience, I started off as a swim instructor at Dolphin Swim Club for about two years. Then I worked in retail from 2004 through July 2012. Started my serious journey in being a massage therapist in the summer of 2009. At a friend’s product party, I had three registered nurses Tell me that I had natural talent and asked me if I was a massage therapist. Since I was not, so enrolled into Massage at Rockford Career College that fall of 2009 and graduated in 2010. I worked for two small chiropractic clinics for five years and then moved onto Circle Of Wellness. Through this time I have taken several classes on how to calm patients nerves, perceive their needs beyond what they’re saying, to see the fascial pulling in their body by the irregular posture they have. Through all of my experience, one thing is definite,  I enjoy helping people in whatever I do. Now, I am looking forward to teaching, lecturing, and helping encourage the next generation of students to use their hands to help heal the next generation beyond them with love, creativity and compassion.
